Types of LASIK Treatment

When considering whether LASIK is a good fit for you, it’s important to know not only the types of vision problems LASIK can correct (see related LASIK FAQs)–but also the types of treatment available to you. Treatment types are essentially broken into standard treatments and personalized treatments. Read on to understand the different types.

Standard Treatment
A standard LASIK treatment takes your current glasses or contact prescription, sets the treatment to adjust the eye for that prescription, and applies the prescription to the eye.

Personalized Treatment
Every eye is unique and has its own peaks and valleys. Your +1 or -1 will be different from another person’s +1 or -1 based on the infrastructure of each eye. A personalized treatment customizes the prescription applied around the peaks and valleys of your eye rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.

When is Standard Treatment Right For Me?
Custom treatments can cost more and this may make the standard treatment a better fit for you.

Alternatively, standard treatments may be a fit if you’ve previously had cataract surgery. If there’s a need for additional improvement in your vision post cataract-surgery, the standard treatment is the recommended approach as custom treatment can be less reliable in these instances.

Why We Recommend Personalized Treatment
At Genstler, we’re conservative surgeons by nature. We aren’t satisfied when our patients are dissatisfied. People who are unhappy with the results of their LASIK generally aren’t unhappy because their prescription isn’t better. Most often it’s because they may experience glares, halos, and starbursts at night which can be a result of standard treatments. Custom treatments minimize those kinds of side effects in addition to providing the right prescription.
